Tata and Mahindra’s Tsunami destroys Hyundai’s empire, slams foreign companies in terms of SUV sales
[ad_1]
There was a time when Indian companies dominated the sales of small cars. At the same time, foreign companies used to dominate the SUV segment. Even in 2021, Hyundai Motors was on top in the Indian market by selling 2.52 lakh SUVs. But in 2022 the picture has completely reversed. India’s two giants Tata Motors and Mahindra have kicked out the SUV segment giant Korean company Hyundai from the game. The dominance of Tata Motors can be gauged from the fact that Tata Motors has sold more cars this year than the total sales of the other two companies in the SUV segment, Maruti and Kia.
Tata and Mahindra sold 6,28,970 cars
In the SUV segment, Tata Motors’ Nexon, Harrier, Safari and Punch are present in the Indian market. On the other hand, Mahindra’s Thar, Scorpio N and XUV700 were well received this year. On the basis of this strong portfolio, Tata Motors and Mahindra have registered a growth of 67% this year. Last year, Tata Motors sold 1,77,544 SUVs from January to December, while this year till November this figure has reached 3,26,354. On the other hand, Mahindra sold 302616 cars this year, while in 2021 the company sold around 2 lakh SUVs.
company | Jan-Nov 2022 | Jan-Dec 2021 |
Tata Motors | 3,26,354 | 1,77,544 |
Mahindra | 3,02,616 | 1,99,608 |
Hyundai | 2,73,753 | 2,52,586 |
Kia India | 1,76,349 | 1,77,476 |
Maruti Suzuki | 1,47,605 | 1,36,351 |

67% growth in one year
Mahindra and Tata’s strong claim in the SUV market is posing a challenge to companies like Kia and Hyundai. This year, Kia and Hyundai have registered a growth of around 5 percent. But this growth pales in comparison to Tata and Mahindra’s whopping 67% growth. Industry experts are attributing this rally to the wide portfolio and pricing of both these companies.
beat with better strategy
Talking about Hyundai, the SUV segment includes the Alcazar apart from its Creta and Venue. But in comparison, Tata cars offer a much wider portfolio at a lower price range. While new launches like Scorpio N and XUV700 have also attracted customers towards Tata and Mahindra. On the other hand, Hyundai has been limited to the facelift of Venue only in this matter.
