After questioning yesterday, the CBI team took away the register and other documents present at the station with them. The station manager was informally interrogated by CBI officials in his cabin. CBI is also closely studying the data logger records, this is an important aspect from which the real cause of the accident can be known.

The CBI started the investigation on the request of the Ministry of Railways.

The matter was handed over to the CBI after railway officials’ preliminary probe indicated tampering with the “electronic interlocking system” and suspected “sabotage” behind the accident. The presence of the train is detected through the ‘Electronic Interlocking System’. On June 2, on the request of the Ministry of Railways, the CBI registered a case in this regard and started the investigation.

278 people died in the accident

Three trains met with an accident near Bahanga Bazar station in Odisha’s Balasore district at around 7 pm on Friday. In one of the worst rail accidents in the country, 278 people died and more than 1100 were injured. Experts have said that both the passenger trains were at high speed, which is also the reason why so many people were killed in the accident.
