IPL 2023: KKR’s fascination with Shreyas Iyer has not diminished, made Nitish the captain, still dreaming like impossible!

New Delhi. Kolkata Knight Riders on Monday announced the name of their captain for IPL 2023. Due to non-availability of regular captain Shreyas Iyer, the franchise has given this responsibility to experienced batsman Nitish Rana for the upcoming season. Nitish has been associated with the KKR franchise since the year 2018 and is one of the most reliable batsmen of the team. Even though Shahrukh Khan’s franchise has announced the new captain, but still his mind is fixed on Shreyas Iyer.

The Kolkata Knight Riders franchise is hoping that Shreyas Iyer will return to the team before the tournament is over. During the last season, Iyer scored 401 runs in 14 matches for KKR with the help of three half-centuries. Iyer was bought by KKR for Rs 12.25 crore during the mega auction held before the last season. He was earlier a part of Delhi Capitals.

In a statement issued by KKR, it was said that in the absence of Shreyas Iyer, who is suffering from back injury, Nitish Rana will lead the team. It was told that the franchise is hoping that at some stage of the tournament, Iyer will recover and return to the KKR team. Nitish will lead the team in his absence. He has also captained in white ball cricket before.

Shreyas Iyer was injured during the Test series between India and Australia. Because of which he could not even become a part of the ODI series played between the two countries. According to the reports, BCCI has advised Iyer to undergo surgery. In such a situation, it seems difficult for him to play cricket for the next six months. In such a situation, it is not clear how Shreyas Iyer will be able to return to KKR till the last phase of IPL 2023.
