Islamabad: An influential US lawmaker has expressed concern about Pakistan’s frequent violations of human rights and democracy.Along with giving advice to the Pakistani government, he stated unequivocally that the country’s freedom of expression and rule of law must be protected.Brad Sherman, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, tweeted that ‘there is concern about the increasing incidents of violence in Pakistan’.

Sherman reminded the government of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s obligation to act against human rights violators in a video statement.Sherman’s video statement was shared by a leader of the party of deposed Prime Minister Imran Khan.

“We will not hesitate to speak out against human rights abuses,” said Sherman, a Democratic Party lawmaker representing California’s 32nd parliamentary district.
Earlier, he tweeted that he spoke with Imran Khan on the phone and met with Asif Mahmood, a Pakistani philanthropist and Democratic candidate running against Young Kim in the state’s 40th parliamentary district, according to Dawn.”The US-Pakistan relationship dates back to the 1940s, and the two countries have worked together on many global and regional issues over the years,” said Sherman, who is seen standing with Mehmood in the video message.
