Nowadays controversies regarding Bollywood films and OTT series have become common. Sometimes a controversy starts over the title of a film and sometimes over a scene. Even now a ruckus starts on social media regarding clothes. Last year there was controversy across the country regarding the poster of the film ‘Kali’. In which the Hindu goddess was shown smoking a cigarette. The Supreme Court has now granted interim protection from arrest to filmmaker Leena Manimekalai in connection with FIRs lodged against her for her controversial poster showing Hindu goddess Kali smoking a cigarette.

A bench of Chief Justices DY Chandrachud and PS Narasimha said: At this stage, prima facie, it appears that registration of FIRs in multiple states may cause serious prejudice to Manimekalai. Thus, notice was issued to the States on the petition to consolidate all the FIRs at one place, as per the law.

Advocate Kamini Jaiswal, assisted by Advocate Indira Unninair, represented Manimekalai in the apex court. He said that FIRs have been registered against the petitioner in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Delhi regarding the short film.
